Concealed in the ceiling — barely visible, powerfully effective.
A bulkhead unit is installed inside a purpose-built cavity in the ceiling — often called a 'bulkhead' or 'soffit.' The unit itself sits entirely within this cavity; only a slim discharge grille is visible from below, giving a far cleaner aesthetic than a standard wall-mounted head.
Bulkhead units are ducted on the discharge side — conditioned air is delivered through the visible grille, while return air may be drawn from the same grille or a separate return. The refrigerant pipes and condensate drain run through the bulkhead cavity to the outdoor unit, leaving walls and ceilings uncluttered.
They are a popular choice for heritage and high-end residential projects where traditional wall-mounted indoor heads would compromise the aesthetic, as well as commercial fitouts with existing bulkhead or joinery opportunities.

All pipework hidden within the bulkhead — no exposed piping on historic facades or corniced ceilings.
